Angela Papou

Director of Merritt Operations
Angela Papou, with gratitude, has lived, worked, and raised a family for over thirty years on the unceded traditional lands of the Nlaka’pamux and Sylix Nations where Merritt is located. In 2017, she joined the Merritt ASK Wellness Society team, beginning in the roles of Front Intake, Tenant Liaison, and Adults with Addictions Supportive Housing (AASH) Life-Skills Worker. With a Housing First lens and a focus on recovery, Angela moved into the Coordinator of Supportive Housing role where she oversaw the Juniper House and AASH programs. Recently, she has taken on the role of Director of Merritt Operations where she supports the Merritt team across multiple housing, health, and recovery programs.

Angela has demonstrated her strong commitment to serve community members living with multiple barriers including homelessness, substance use disorders, and differing abilities. She has served a term on the BC Housing Registry Council and has volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program and the Merritt Walk of Stars Mural project mentoring youth. Currently, she sits on the Board of Directors for Nicola Valley Shelter and Support Society.

Angela holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, which she earned jointly from the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology and Thompson River’s University. Her education at an Indigenous Post-Secondary institute strengthened her dedication to an ethical practice committed to learning, incorporating cultural safety, and taking active steps towards reconciliation.
