Position Summary: Within this role your priority will be to work in conjunction with the Housing Outreach Team to provide support and service to Program Participants seeking housing services with a hope of reducing homelessness in the community.  The overriding purpose is to assist Program Participants with multiple barriers and challenging behaviors in finding appropriate shelter and/or detox, treatment, health services, supportive housing, and market housing. Position Summary: As a Tenant Support Worker, you will provide life skills services to Program Participants who may struggle with mental health concerns, substance use challenges, and chronic health conditions. Within this role you will support Program Participants to identify individual goals and develop life skills necessary to live as independently as possible. Service delivery is based on a client centered, trauma informed and non-judgmental perspective.

Typical Duties Include:

Tenant Support Worker Responsibilities

Encourage and support Program Participants to live as fully and independently as possible.
Participate in the assessment, goal setting and program planning for Program Participants when requested.
Provide supervision and support to mitigate individual and program risk to ensure safety, comfort, and wellness.
Work closely with identified community resources for each Program Participant.
Actively seek the views of Program Participants and involve them in decision making to improve their own identity, purpose, and self-esteem.
Complete wellness checks/room checks when required.
Monitor and move along community members who are loitering in and around the property.
Provide crisis intervention as required including overdose responses by ensuring immediate access to medical services and completing necessary incident reports when required.

Administrative Responsibilities

Conduct assessments of potential Program Participants using the BC Housing mandated Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT) when requested.
Complete accurate and up to date communication/case notes.
Maintain files and statistics as per accreditation standards.
Complete move in/move out documentation as required by the Property Services Department.
Work in collaboration with the Licensed Practical Nurse to ensure medication adherence and documentation.
When requested, be a member of the Society’s Performance and Quality Improvement (PQI) team.
Ensure compliance with all Society policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor of Social Work, Human Services Diploma, Support Worker/Care Aid Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or lived experience.
Strong ability to recognize and address difficult behaviors.
Good communication, documentation, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
Ability to work within a team-based environment involving multi-agency supports.
Strong working knowledge of community resources.

Typical Duties Include:

General Maintenance Worker Responsibilities

Establishes, monitors, and carries out preventative maintenance procedures and schedules for buildings, equipment and grounds. Ensures building and equipment meet all safety, security and fire regulations and policies.
Make recommendations for major repairs and purchases to Director of Resources and Property Management.
Perform carpentry, electrical, painting, mechanical and plumbing maintenance and repairs such as repairing furniture, constructing shelves, installing switches, replacing plugs and other basic appliance repairs, applying paint and other finishes, repairing drywall, disassembling and reassembling equipment, replacing sinks and toilet.

Monitor work performed by contractors, prepares estimates of labour and material costs to submit to Director of Resources and Property Management.
Collect and removes garbage and recyclable materials and ensures the safe disposal of hazardous waste.
Clean external areas such as entranceways, sidewalks and parking lots using manual and power brooms, rakes, shovels and other equipment to remove dirt, leaves, snow and other refuse.
Perform minor gardening and lawn maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning and watering.
Transport equipment, furniture and supplies manually and/or using aides such as dollies and cart.
Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and move goods and supplies.
Arrange furniture for special events.
Represent the maintenance department at Society Safety Meetings when requested.
