RELEASE DATE- March 5, 2026
Kamloops, BC - ASK Wellness Society (ASK) is proud to announce the launch of its Recovery Engagement Program (REP), a new initiative designed to support individuals navigating the complex journey from substance use to recovery.
Operating through Reaching Home funding, the introduction of REP adds further programming diversity across ASK’s current continuum of care. This voluntary, person-centred service helps individuals connect to recovery resources such as detox, residential or outpatient treatment, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and harm reduction services. REP serves as a vital connection point between low-barrier programming and formal recovery services, helping individuals take the next step when they are ready.
The program is delivered by James Juke, Recovery Engagement Specialist. On the ground daily, Juke connects with and assists participants across various ASK sites, including supportive housing and shelter programs, meeting them exactly where they are. As a systems navigator, he supports individuals in initiating the recovery process, completing applications, and connecting with recovery centres. His role provides the consistent follow-up needed to help those he serves feel connected and supported.
Though only recently launched, REP is already building momentum. Juke has been making meaningful connections, planting seeds, building trust, and getting to know participants across ASK programs. Multiple individuals have submitted applications and are currently on detox or recovery waitlists. REP has recently already seen its first participant’s successful transition into a recovery program, an encouraging early milestone.
"There are a lot of people curious about recovery. I see it in their eyes when they sit and talk," says Juke. "People are often stuck in a rut or an unhealthy routine and don’t know how to get out of it. I’m trying to show them there is a better way and help them take that chance. It all starts with a single conversation."
Participation in REP is based on mutual respect and shared responsibility. While Juke acts as a navigator, the onus remains with the participants. The program is designed to empower individuals to make their own decisions about their health and future.
"People are often scared of the unknown. What happens to their housing? To their social network? To their routine when they step into their recovery journey?" says Kim Galloway, Operations Officer at ASK. "Recovery is a long, intentional road. We are here to help navigate that system, take some of that fear away, and provide a potential bridge for them to cross."
By creating a clear pathway between curiosity and commitment, REP aims to fill a critical service gap in Kamloops.
