AIDS Walk 2025: Carried by Care, Fuelled by Community

Just days into the first crisp stretch of fall, on Friday, September 26, 2025, staff, community members, and allies gathered in solidarity and purpose to participate in the annual AIDS Walk. Guided by the energy and compassion of Cookie Reimer and Elisha Noyes, alongside the Health Navigation team, this year’s walk was more than a tradition; it was a celebration of resilience, remembrance, and the power of community care.

This walk is one of the most meaningful ways that we honour our roots. Founded in 1992 as the AIDS Society of Kamloops, the Society began with a mission to support people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, promote health and wellness, and strengthen the community through education. Decades later, the annual AIDS Walk continues that legacy, and every stride reflects our collective commitment to a future free from stigma and full of support.

From the back alley of 433 Tranquille to the loop at Spero House, participants carried both memory and hope with every footstep. Along the way, heartfelt conversations, shared laughter, and moments of reflection marked the day as one of connection and meaning. Support extended far beyond the sidewalks. Drivers honked, neighbours waved, and participants cheered one another on, small gestures that reminded everyone of the support and connection this walk inspires. This is what makes the AIDS Walk more than an event: it’s a living, breathing expression of care, courage, and unity.

Breaking Bread, Sharing Stories

After the walk, more than 70 attendees gathered for a community BBQ. Burgers sizzled, and Cookie’s homemade pickles and relish, a beloved tradition, made their return. This shared meal offered a chance to reconnect, reflect, and remind us that advocacy is as much about nourishing relationships as it is about raising awareness.

Community Spirit in Action

To every walker, volunteer, donor, and cheerleader: thank you. Your presence matters. Your steps matter. Together, we carry forward a legacy that began decades ago, walking, speaking out, and creating a future where compassion, care, and understanding lead the way.
